The Hull Identification Variety (HIN) is a 12- or 14-character serial variety that uniquely identifies a ship. The HIN is analogous to the VIN on an automobile.
The primary three digits are the Manufacturer’s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand name for example Sea Ray, Meridian, and many others.). The four digits following that are definitely the company’s serial number for the boat. The third and 4th digits from the finish will be the date of manufacture. The letter around the date of the manufacture corresponds to the thirty day period with the 12 months, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so forth. The last two digits of the HIN number stand for the product 12 months.
All boats produced or imported on or right after November 1, 1972, will have to bear a HIN, which HIN has to be identified in the course of boat registration. Vessels manufactured or imported right before 1972 are EXEMPT mainly because they generally don't have a HIN.
